Question: So many of the people we are inviting to our wedding have kids, but we want to have an adult-only reception. How do we let them know that their children are not invited? Should we put it on our invitation?
Answer: It's really not appropriate to state "no children" or "adult-only reception" on your wedding invitations. The proper way to let people know that their children are not invited is to only write the names of the parents on the inner and outer envelopes of your invitation. If they include their children on the response, you'll have to call them and nicely explain that you are only inviting adults to the reception. Don't be shy about doing this---THEY are the ones making the mistake in etiquette, NOT YOU.
Also, be sure to get the word out ahead of time that your wedding will be for adults only. Friends and family can be a big help at spreading the word for you!
Happy planning,
Christine
